A large domestic garden comprising three rooms with an emphasis on lush planting
This large and long suburban garden located in the West Midlands has been divided roughly into thirds; the nearest third to the house is the patio/entertaining zone, the centre third is the lawned and planted areas and the bottom third is a wooded low maintenance area, all connected by a path running the length of the garden edged with a linear orchard on the northern boundary.
The different zones of space are defined by a tall privet hedge between lawn and woodland and a linear island border which bisects the lawn diagonally to pick up the retained spruce and maple trees. This diagonal bisecting border comprises low maintenance and high impact grasses and elegant perennials suitable for a more exposed, dry location.

The patio/entertaining area comprises sandstone plank paving with rendered blockwork walls and waist-height planters with integrated seating. Planting in this zone is sensory, with fragrant herbs and shrubs all easily accessible.
The paving continues along the length of the garden with the lawn on the right and the new linear orchard on the left. The orchard comprises a single row of apple and pear trees underplanted with low shrubs, grasses and perennials for shade.
