The reconfiguration of a historic building to provide informal co-working spaces
Sheffield Technology Parks provide incubator spaces for emerging technology firms located in a range of existing buildings in the Sheffield Cultural Industries Quarter, but wanted to provide spaces attractive to tenants who do not want to lease their own conventional workspace units.
The reconfiguration of a historic building to provide informal co-working spaces
The first floor of the Cooper Building was reconfigured from a generic 1970s fitout to create informal open-plan co-working lounge areas along with a variety of meeting spaces.
The existing subdividing partitions and suspended ceilings were stripped out to reveal the character of the original building and open up the whole building width. The new fit-out comprises a variety of new insertions to create a range of informal co-working areas, with full-height glazed screens increasing visual connections and maximising natural daylighting. The modern palette of natural materials with vibrant highlight colours complements both the existing building and the new use. A further series of meeting rooms and phone pods have been designed for the West Wing building.
