Redcar Seafront
Masterplan

RIBA international competition shortlisted finalist

The urban design proposal for a new beachfront promenade, including the reconstruction of the sea defence walls in an accessible series of gently sloping 'waves'.  ... Our design comprised a linear planted park with a series of small interventions at key nodes emphasising the connections back to the town centre. The main driver of our design was to connect the magnificent Redcar beach and seafront back to the town centre.

The design incorporated a family of shelters and kiosks, plus a major information and creative arts building, plus the incorporation of existing seafront buildings. Off-grid PV power generation is proposed. A selection of sustainable low-maintenance materials and generous new landscaped areas are proposed, designed to cope with the challenging position, exposed and prone to sea spray.
