An innovative working environment with internal and external courtyard spaces

The ongoing phased refurbishment and extension of a former cutlery works in Sheffield city centre to provide coworking spaces for start-up businesses. ... The project ranges from space-planning of tenancies, retrofitting existing buildings of varying ages and adding extensions through to new buildings to complete the existing courtyard layout and provide different types of space.

The work is being undertaken in a series of discrete phases to minimise disruption of tenants and suit the client’s business plan. The spaces include creating of individual workplace suites for a variety of uses, creating less traditional working spaces to suit new technological trends and ways of working through to the design of an ultra-low energy, timber framed, naturally ventilated new extension which will also provide a glass-roofed event space.
